Cong chides BJP govt, says works when told to do so

CANACONA
Leader of Opposition and ex-Chief Minister Digambar Kamat described his government of 2007-12 as a prosperous one while the present one has become the government of poverty.

Kamat was speaking at the Canacona Congress block workers meeting in the presence of Congress Senior Election Observer and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Goa Desk Incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao, MP (South) Francisco Sardhinha, GCCI President Girish Chodankar, MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and other leaders in Canacona.

“The poll atmosphere is hotting up and this BJP government run by Pramod Sawant is feeling the heat. It is finding itself in a web of non-performance,” he said.

On the pothole contest of his party, Kamat said, “Yes, I took the pain of taking a selfie during the campaign. I had to bend a lot to take selfies to capture the potholes in the frame. A selfie of mine had a viral and telling effect on the government. It was forced to announce all potholes on Goan roads will be gone before November 1. This government acts only when told to work.”

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant says the treasury was overflowing when Kamat was the Chief Minister. Yes, I agree because Congress worked hard to fill up the treasury unlike the BJP-run governments, he asserted and added, “Moreover my government’s five-year term from 2007 to 2012 was the most successful and it was filled with prosperity. The BJP with its dismayed performance since 2012 has become a government of poverty.”

Incidentally, Kamat reminded people of Canacona how his government machinery came rushing when half of the taluka was affected in the October 2, 2009, flash floods. “We made provisions and cash available to the flood-affected victims in a flash and brought the people out of misery. Don’t know, how this government would have reacted to the situation,” he added.

Goa Desk Incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao charged BJP of misrule by resorting to “paisa fenko, tamasha dekho.” This government has badly affected people’s otherwise sustainable life, he added.

MP Francisco Sardhinha said BJP’s working style was only to enhance taxes.
