Issues over Rural Medical Dispensary (RMD) took the centre stage at the gram sabha in Velim.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Savio D’Silva also deliberated on the issues facing the senior citizens from the village and the steps needed to tide over the problems faced by the elders.
Gram sabha members led by Ramon Almeida brought to the notice of the Sarpanch that the Rural Medical Dispensary (RMD) is facing an acute staff shortage, as the RMD has no full-time medical officer and that the sub health centre lacks a multipurpose health worker (male).
Ramona pointed out that it would be of great benefit for the villagers if these vacant posts of medical officer and multipurpose health worker (male) are filled up at the earliest. She said this would assist the PHC Balli in effectively undertaking the required health check up of the citizens in the village.
After much discussion, the gram sabha adopted a resolution to urge the Directorate of Health Services to take immediate steps to fill the vacant posts of medical officer at the Rural Medical Dispensary, Velim and multipurpose health worker (male) at the sub-health centre, Velim.
The gram sabha also discussed the issues faced by the senior citizens of Velim.
Members demanded 100 per cent coverage of identity cards for senior citizens issued by the Directorate of Social welfare. The members demanded setting up of a day care centre for senior citizens in Velim under the UMEED scheme of the Directorate of Social welfare.
It was also proposed to appoint a senior citizens volunteer committee for the Cuncolim police station representing Velim village as stated in the Goa Rules 2009 of the Maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens Act 2007.
