While the BJP have gone gung ho over the large turnout of voting in Mormugao Taluka, which has been instrumental in deciding the fates of LS candidates in the South, Congress has claimed that the voters who had come out had voted for a change.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) vice president Sankalp Amonkar on Wednesday said that the large turnout of voters in Mormugao indicates definite victory of Congress LS Candidate Francisco Sardinha.
"I had taken a round of over 29 booths in Mormugao Constituency and the way people have come out only shows that they are looking for a change. People voted early in the morning and this was a great start and I am confident that Congress will be victorious. People are fed up with BJP for not resolving the mining issue and for their failure to provide secular governance," said Amonkar.
Vasco Congress Leader and GPCC Secretary Saifullah Khan said that Vasco Constituency had seen the highest number of voters participating though the voting percentage was low.
"Vasco may have seen a voting percentage of 66.44 which may be the lowest in Mormugao Taluka, but Vasco is one of the biggest constituencies in South Goa having around 38,000 voters and 66.44 means that more than 25,000 Vasco voters have participated. Dabolim, Mormugao and Cortalim constituency have around 25,000 voters and 72 percent voting means around 18,000 people have voted. We have done better than any other constituency in terms of participation and this signifies that Congress will achieve a great lead this time," Khan said.
NCP State President Jose Philip D’souza who was also working with Congress Candidate Francisco Sardinha in Vasco said that Aam Admi Party could eat the winning margin of Congress in South Goa.
"There was a large turnout of voters but it is to be seen if the voters came out in large numbers with anger or love for the BJP. They may have a smile on the face but they have anger in their minds and heart. Mormugao will provide a lead for the Congress. People are upset with the BJP. AAP cannot eat into Congress votes but will only reduce the winning margin of the Congress," said D'Souza.
