Congress leaders and workers in Calangute on Monday protested at the electricity department office after complaining about hefty 3-month bills issued at one time.

Former MLA Agnelo Fernandes, former sarpanch Joseph Siqueira, North Goa Congress Youth President Vivek D’Silva, Bholanath Ghadi Sakhalkar, Priya Rathod, Premanand Divkar and other karyakartas confronted electricity department engineer Denis Rodrigues at Calangute.

"Consumers do not have the money to pay these overcharged bills. The government should waive off these bills considering the pandemic," said D’Silva.

"Mapusa, Porvorim and other areas get their monthly bills on time but only Calangute receives them once in three months," he added.

Meanwhile, protestors presented an appeal mentioning their demands to engineer Denis Rodrigues, who assured that consumers will receive their bills every month from the next month.

Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo and his team were present to maintain law and order.
