MARGAO: The State Health Minister has urged its citizens to remain vigilant against the Covid pandemic, saying the government would come out with new SOPs at the right time.
The minister, who also holds the Women and Child Development portfolio, underscored the need for all the 1290 anganwadi schools spread across the state to have premises on government land.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a function organized by Women and Child Development at the Ravindra Bhavan to felicitate Anganwadi workers, CDPOs and field workers, the Health Minister announced that Rs 50 lakh would be deposited in the name of his grandmother, the interest from which would used for cash awards to CDPOs and anganwadi workers for their good work.
“Covid cases in the state have been hovering around 100 a day on an average. We would like the people to take all precautions. The government will come out with new SOPs at the right time”, he said.
He said the frontline workers attached to the Women and Child Development, including Anganwadi workers, CDPOs, Mukisevikays, field workers and helpers lent their helping hands during the first and second Covid wave by distributing central government ration to households. “These were the people who took the risk of moving door to door and distributing the ration and nutrients to lactating mothers and pregnant women to ensure that the new born does not suffer from anemia. “The work done by these frontline workers has been outstanding”, he added.
The Minister for Women and Child Development further said the government is aware of the difficulties faced by the Anganwadi workers.
Saying the Anganwadi schools provide education to the children belonging to the common man and the underprivileged, the minister said the government should think of making available its own premises to all the 1290 Anganwadi schools functioning from rented premises.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat was also present at the function.
