The Congress party on Sunday demanded immediate action against the new PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar for violating the model code of conduct by calling PWD engineers to his residence and issuing instructions to start work without work orders.
Asserting that the Goa Election Commission was inactive in curbing violations pertaining to election code, Congress spokesperson Trajano D’Mello said, “ECI should issue necessary directions to the ruling BJP government that no new works can be started.”
D’Mello also demanded action against South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar and North Goa MP Shripad Naik who used official cars while filing nomination. He also said that despite Congress complaint against appointment of deputy chief ministers, the government has appointed a deputy CM when the code is in force.
“Official cars issued to ministers can only be used for the purpose of travel to residence or to the legislative assembly. Official cars cannot be used for private purpose including electioneering,” he said.
D’Mello also demanded that the ECI issue directions to stop payment of any compensation done through IDC to Shiroda Assembly BJP candidate Subhash Shirodkar as he claimed it will violate the model code of conduct. He alleged that the ECI has not taken any cognizance of their complaint filed on March 21 in this regard.
Raising another issue he alleged that the Revenue Minister and the government are responsible for all illegal registrations of voters. “How did the revenue department officials approve 800 online applications from Porvorim casino workers which came from a single IP address,” asked D’Mello, adding that Khaunte is fooling the people by enacting a drama of raising objection against the voter registrations.
“The entire staff in the mamlatdar office is under the revenue minister. It is noticed that in the last seven years illegal voting has increased in Porvorim and Mapusa,” alleged D’Mello.
Congress spokesperson Rohit Bras D’Sa alleged that the public prosecutor was being paid through the Home Department’s budget head for SP (South) and demanded that the money should be recovered and the matter handled by existing public prosecutors. Meanwhile, the party has questioned why the two MPs were silent on the issues like formalin-laced fish.
D’Sa alleged that the MPs were incompetent to take any initiative in solving the mining issue. Meanwhile Congress has raised questions over the motive behind appointing a Special Public Prosecutor to oppose filing of FIR in the formalin-laced fish controversy raised by South Goa lawyer Rajeev Gomes.
