Cong demands Gov step in, dismiss Parrikar-led govt

The Opposition Congress on Monday demanded that Governor Mridula Sinha step in and dismiss the Manohar Parrikar-led coalition government citing “collapse” of the administration due to the absence of the Chief Minister and two other ministers on health grounds.  
Congress spokespersons Ramakant Khalap and Yatish Naik on Monday said Sinha should “withdraw her pleasure” and dismiss the government under Article 154 of the constitution, and impose President’s Rule.  
The Chief Minister has been continuously absent. The governor must take congnisance of the situation prevailing in Goa and the failure of the government to abide by the Constitution, the Congress spokespersons said.  
Khalap, a former Union law minister, said that
the party would also be meeting with the Governor shortly to formally convey the demand for dismissal of government.  
If the CM cannot appoint a deputy to handle the responsibility during his absence from the State, then it was high time he resigned, Khalap said.
“We have sent the governor a letter asking her to give us an appointment at the earliest,” Khalap said, adding that the party will prevail upon her to act as per the Constitutional mandate.  
 The Congress spokespersons cited the government’s policy paralysis on the mining conundrum, mismanagement of the ‘formalin in fish’ row, pathetic condition of roads and power supply situation to justify the party’s claim that governance and administration has collapsed.  
The party will consider petitioning the President of India if the Governor does not take cognisance of the situation, Khalap said, adding that the Congress did not take to the streets over the BJP-led government’s failure to release the CM’s health bulletin on “humanitarian” consideration.
