Censuring the government on the poor condition of roads in Aldona, the Congress on Tuesday questioned how a road hot-mixed just a year ago got washed away and demanded an inquiry into the contracts issued to hot-mix roads in Aldona.  “The main road from Pomburpa to Ecoxim has completely worn out causing a lot of inconvenience and putting the lives of commuters at risk,” said Amarnath Panjikar, PCC member and Congress spokesman .
Panjikar along with Aldona Congress Block members was addressing a news conference in Mapusa office on Tuesday.
Continuing, he said the Pomburpa to Ecoxim stretch was hot-mixed just a year ago but the current state clearly shows that tax payer’s money has gone down the drain.
He said the top carpet of the entire hot-mixed road has washed away putting the lives of two-wheeler riders at risk.
He further said that the road near the Moira Bridge and several other roads in Aldona were also dotted with potholes.
Referring to the pathetic condition of the service road along NH17, near the Bastora flyover, the Congress spokesman said that this road was also hot-mixed but has been washed away in the first rains.
“Now, the local MLA is putting pavers on the road and says that it will be a permanent solution. How can someone claim it as permanent solution when the pavers that were used along the same stretch last year have sunk in at many places,” Panjikar asked rubbishing the local MLA’s claim.
Aldona Congress Block President Ashwin D’Souza said the BJP-led government in the State has miserably failed in providing basic needs of power, roads and water to the people of Goa.
He said he saw only two reasons for the sorry state of affairs in Aldona “ either the government did not care for the local MLA or the MLA does not care for the people of the constituency.
Turning his attention to the incomplete Bastora flyover, Panjikar said the project has missed several deadlines making a complete mockery of the local MLA’s claims.
“The work on the flyover began in January 2016 and the foundation stone ceremony was held on March 12 on the local MLA’s birthday with much fanfare,” he said.
He said the project has missed one deadline after another completely exposing the local MLA’s promise to the residents of Aldona.
“Now, NH authorities should give us the date when the flyover project will be competed,” he said.
