Former Shiroda MLA Mahadev Naik on Sunday made his re-entry into the Congress at an impressive meeting held in Shiroda in the presence of AICC secretary and Goa desk incharge Dr A Chellakumar, on Sunday.

Upping the ante against the BJP for poaching its MLAs, Chellakumar said if Congress is voted to power then it will see that the land acquisition deal done by BJP government to benefit Subhash Shirodkar is cancelled.

“I assure that Rs 63 crore out of that deal will be distributed among four panchayats of Shiroda constituency for development. Hence before voting think whether development of one family (of Subhash Shirodkar) or of four panchayats is important”, he said.

Chellakumar said Shirodkar is a habitual defector and should be taught a lesson. “He is biggest backstabber and biggest defector”, he said.

Chellakumkar also promised that if UPA is voted to power then they will implement the minimum income guarantee scheme for people below poverty line.

Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar, GPCC president Girish Chodankar, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, former MP Francisco Sardinha, Varadh Mardolkar, Digambar Kamat and others were present on the occasion.

Attacking the BJP, Reginaldo said Manohar Parrikar used to talk of ‘Congress Mukt’, but he could not fulfill his dream. BJP should now get ready to pack their bags as even BJP stalwart Parsekar has made up his mind to contest as an independent. “We have to work together and win this seat. Where there is unity there is strength and where there is strength there is victory”, he said.

Ravi Naik said Congress has a lot of credit for developing the nations -- right from freedom struggle to information technology while the BJP had

brought in suffering by closing down the mining in Goa.

“Congress will soon form government and will resolve all issues grappling the State”, he said.

Leader of the Opposition Kavlekar slammed the BJP for forming the government through the back door. “They used money to form the government. We didn’t did delay in forming the government. But while we were doing so, BJP went to the governor and staked claim. They could do it only because of money.” Kavlekar said.

Digambar Kamat said swabhimani voters of Shiroda should teach a lesson to Subhash Shirodkar and set an example to those who resign as MLAs for their vested interest. “People of Shiroda are fighters. Retain it and send Shirodkar home.” Kamat said.

Speaking at the meeting, Mahadev Naik, the probable Congress candidate, said Shirodkar is a “gaddar” (traitor) and hence should be taught a lesson. “He joined BJP for his vested interest. He has got crores of rupees for the land deal”, he said.

Attacking the BJP, Naik said the saffron party had quietly sidelined leaders of Bahujan Samaj.

During last assembly election Vinay Tendulkar had supported the MGP in Sanvordem and defeated Ganesh Gaonkar. This was the politics he played”, he said.
