The Congress party on Sunday demanded the resignation of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane over the goof-up after Goa Medical College morgue staff disposed the body of Aldona youth Januz Gonsalves instead of an unclaimed body.
“A body getting lost from mortuary is a serious issue. GMC staff is responsible for this cruel, criminal negligence. Health minister by just going to the house of Januz is not enough... he should resign taking moral responsibility”, said Congress Spokesperson and Aldona block president Amarnath Panajikar at a press conference.
Alleging that Aldona primary health centre is lacking health facilities, Panjikar also demanded that the centre be provided with facilities such as an ‘108 ambulance’.
He said if Aldona PHC had an ambulance at hand, the precious life of Januz could have been saved.
Tara Kerkar of Savera NGO also gunned for Vishwajit, alleging an organ trafficking racket was operating from GMC morgue which was responsible for this goof-up.
“The staff at the morgue along with a private hospital is involved in organ trafficking. Eight organs are being harvested and sold”, she alleged.
She demanded that the services of doctors and persons involved in this goof-up should be terminated instead of just suspending them.
She claimed Januz post-mortem was purposely delayed and before the post-mortem Januz’s brother who was waiting outside was told to go home by doctors.
