PANAJI
The Congress staged a protest outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office at Patto-Panaji in support of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who was questioned by the ED in the National Herald case.
Leaders like GPCC President Amit Patkar, Opposition Leader Michael Lobo, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, Mahila Congress President Bina Naik, Youth Congress President Varad Mardolkar participated in the protest.
Similar protests were held by Congress committees in many states before the respective enforcement directorate offices.
Lobo said vindictive politics is going on at the national level.
“Government machinery has been misused to target Congress leaders without any reason. This trend of targeting leaders is dangerous to democracy. To silence the opposition party leaders, false cases have been framed against them by the government,” said Lobo.
Patkar accused the BJP government in Goa of also targeting Opposition Leader Michael Lobo.
“There is no case in the National Herald issue and Congress party had given a loan of Rs 90 crore to the National Herald to pay its employees.”
Added Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira: “There is no case against the Gandhis as payment of a loan is not a criminal offense.”
