Senior Congress leaders joined a cycle rally organized to protest against the rising prices of fuel and other essential commodities in the city here on Saturday.

The rally which started from the historic Lohia Maidan wend its way through the city before culminating at the South Goa Collectorate building.

Party leaders led by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar, former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro, GPCC vice-president Altinho Gomes, former Power Minister Alexio Sequeira, district president Joe Dias, Margao Block Congress President Gopal Naik, Vice Chairperson of MMC DipaliSawal and other Congress Functionaries participated in the Cycle Rally after paying tributes at the Martyrs Memorial and Statue of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia.

The cycle rally was the third protest held by Congress Party in Goa as part of its nationwide campaign against Modi Government. Earlier, Mahila and Youth Congress had a Protest March in Panaji beating drums condemning the price hike on 8th July. Sankhali, Valpoi and Bicholim Block Congress organised Bullock Card Protest March on 9th July at Sankhali. “We will continue with our agitation till the prices are rolled back”, warned PCC vice-president, Altino Gomes.

Addressing the workers, Opposition leader Digambar Kamat said the cycle protest rally is the beginning of a new revolution against the BJP government, saying the most irresponsible BJP Government has pushed every citizen into a debt trap by creating financial emergency. “The Congress Party will fight against the rising prices of fuel and other essential commodities”, he said.

Kamat said the BJP Government had grabbed power in Goa in 2012 promising people to cap the petrol prices at Rs.60 per litre. Today, the prices have touched almost hundred, he added.

GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar said the BJP Government is looting the people by literally extorting money by way of taxes on fuel prices. Where this money is going, he questioned.

South Goa District Congress president Joe Dias termed the rising fuel prices as insensitive act of the BJP government which is not concerned about sufferings of the people.
