Cong manifesto offers nothing new: BJP

Panaji: Hitting out at the Congress for ‘it’s hollow promises’, the BJP Goa Pradesh General Secretary

Adv Narendra Sawaikar said on Friday that the Congress election manifesto was like old wine in a new bottle as it offers nothing new to the people of Goa.

“The same Congress Party which did not retain contract workers when in power has promised to do so if voted to power. How can the Party expect votes when it has done nothing progressive for Goa? Goans will not be fooled,” said a press note issued by the BJP on Friday.

Challenging the Opposition to show one work it had done to protect the interests of the OBCs, SCs and STs, Sawaikar said, “It was the BJP government that introduced and implemented welfare schemes for these communities.”

He added, “Earlier, the Congress has announced in its manifesto to provide laptops to students. We need to remind the Congress that this scheme belongs to the BJP. When Manohar Parrikar was CM, he had implemented the cyber scheme for students. BJP has always given priority to education among other sectors. The education standard has seen an upward trend only because BJP has been committed to its work.”

Saying the Congress had promised in its manifesto to make petrol and diesel available at Rs 80 per litre, the BJP said that fuel rates in BJP-ruled states were cheaper than in Congress states.

Alleging that the promise of 30% reservation for women in government jobs was a sham which the Congress did not fulfill while in power in Goa for many years, the BJP claimed that it had fulfilled 95%  of its electoral promises.
