In a shocking incident, a father along with his minor son allegedly jumped into the river from the Calvim Bridge at Aldona thereby committing suicide,” police officials informed.
A complaint has been registered with the Mapusa police that one, Vijay Vishnu Gavkar (48) of Sainagar-Aldona and his son Rudraksh Gavkar (7) are missing.
The incident came to light in the evening after Vijay Gavkar’s wife came home from work. She found that her husband and son were not at home and also could not establish contact with them. She then began to search for the missing duo.
Later in the evening, Gavkar’s motorcycle was located in the middle of the Calvim Bridge. The father and son’s slippers and a bottle of water were also found nearby. Upon discovering this, the family informed Mapusa police and fire brigade about the incident.
DySP Uday Parab, PI Ninad Deulkar along with his colleagues rushed to the spot. Fire personnel from Mapusa fire station also rushed to the spot.
With the help of local private boat owners a search operation was undertaken in the river but the whereabouts of the father and son were not known till late at night.
The police suspect that Vijay may have committed suicide along with his son as he was jobless.
