Cong must decide on poll alliance in Sept itself: NCP

PANAJI
Congress should decide on an alliance with NCP and other like-minded parties for the upcoming Goa assembly polls in September itself, Nationalist Congress Party general secretary Praful Patel said on Thursday.

“Congress should reach out to NCP and if they have other minded parties in mind in September itself. So that every party has a few months to prepare in those assembly segments so that there is a better chance of success,” Patel told a press conference on Thursday. He also said that an early alliance would help the anti-BJP forces to “work unitedly” for the polls, which are scheduled to be held in early 2022.

“We have spoken to the Congress informally and we have indicated that we have been in alliance in past in Goa together and it would be better and in the interest of the overall politics in Goa that all like-minded parties like Congress, NCP should work together and have an alliance like in the past,” Patel also said.

The NCP leader also said that he was in touch with leaders of other regional political parties for a possible tie-up ahead of the polls. “In Goa to meet other senior leaders. I have met Vijai Sardesai and he has also told me that he is also waiting to hear from the Congress. Let us see now what happens. It is important that all political forces who are like-minded should come together as soon as possible in the interest of the state and politics of Goa,” Patel said.

Sardesai heads the Goa Forward party, which is currently in the opposition in Goa. The NCP has a lone MLA in the 40-member state legislative assembly.
