Ambelim Sports Club made light work of SCC Cavelossim 6-3 in the Goa Football Association State Futsal Championship, at Chowgule Futsal Arena on Thursday.
Both teams fielded strong line-ups. The Cavelossim team, comprising Clencio Pinto, former India futsal player Savio Fernandes and Klusner Pereira were caught off guard and were stunned with three quick goals from the Ambelim side. Myron Pereira opened the scoring in the seventh minute and Ambelim were soon up by three goals in the ninth minute, thanks to a quick brace from Ronaldo Pereira. Stepen, playing for Ambelim made matters worse for Cavelossim with a fourth goal.
Cavelossim then upped their game and managed to score two goals through Klusner and Laxman Thapa. But despite trying hard and dominating the remainder of the half, Cavelossim failed to score. Earlier, Ambelim dominated the first quarter of the game and missed several chances. However, a 4-2 lead at the break was enough to take control of the game.
In the second half, Domnic Soares stung Cavelossim, scoring the fifth goal for Ambelim. Bersal Viegas managed to pull another goal back for Cavelossim but Stepen put the game to bed with a late strike, make it 6-3.
In the second match of the day, Panjim Footballers recorded a comfortable 5-2 win over Goa Velha Sports Club.
Panjim Footballers led 1-0 at the break through a strike from Clifton Rebello in otherwise a drab first half as both teams failed to create any real chances in the game.
However, in the second half, Panjim attacked from the word go and Clifton scored his second before Allan Pixoto slammed a brace. Franky Cabral and Sairaj Chodankar pulled two goals back for Goa Velha before Clifton completed his treble to score the fifth goal for Panjim.
