Calangute Veterans blanked Viva North Veterans 4-0 to clinch the 8th edition Pogo Cup Veterans football tournament organised Pogo Boys in the final at Merces ground on Wednesday.
Calangute Veterans dominated the game and pushed their opponents on the back foot. They launched barrage of attacks and fired salvo against the rival citadel. Persistent forays paid of the dividends when former India captain Bruno Coutinho mesmerised the crowd with darting runs.
Bruno broke the deadlock when he unleashed a volley which gave no chance to the rival goalkeeper. Spurred by the lead, Calangute Veterans intensified their attacks when Bruno punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
The second half did not bring cheers to the rival team as they attacked from both the flanks. Allwyn inflated the tally. Viva North Goa Veterans surrendered their challenge meekly and Jude drove the last nail into the rival coffin. Bruno Coutinho was adjudged the man of the final.
Calangute Veterans were richer by Rs 20,000 while Viva North Goa Veterans bagged Rs 15,000.
Fr Britto, parish priest of Merces Church was the chief guest and gave the prizes in the presence of Merces panchayat members and executives of Veterans Football Club.
