Senior leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress met in the national capital on Wednesday to discuss and explore the possibility of an alliance between the two political parties to fight the 2022 Assembly elections.
NCP Goa chief Jose Phillip D'Souza said the two parties have in principle agreed to forge an alliance of like-minded parties in the coming elections to keep the BJP at bay.
He, however, said that leaders of the two parties will sit and discuss to decide on the number of seats the NCP will contest in the ensuing polls.
“One thing that has emerged from the meeting our party supremo Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel had with Congress leaders in Delhi is that the two parties have agreed in principle to forge an alliance. Our leaders will meet again to decide on the seats', he added.
Though the NCP had staked claim for around 8-10 seats, Congress leaders in private say that Congress will not concede that many seats for the Sharad Pawar-led party.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Goa on October 30. During his one day visit, Gandhi will address a meeting of party workers at Bambolim stadium and mining-affected people in Panaji.
He will also have a separate meeting with his senior party workers.
