With BJP’s decision to continue government with the ailing Manohar Parrikar as chief minister and replacing two ailing ministers with two new ministers, it looks like the Congress has now changed its strategy to corner the government.
The Goa Pradesh Congress president Girish Chodankar on Thursday said that the Congress will now target the Chief Minister and other ministers for their allegedly illegal and corrupt decisions.
“We will come with a big expose of a scam by this government especially by the CM on October 4. Our legal team is working on that,” said Girish Chodankar.
He also said that along with the legal complaints, Congress will also mount pressure with simultaneous morchas.
It may be recalled that in a move to corner the government, Congress has already written a letter to the legislature secretary to remove the Speaker from office.
The party also wrote to the Governor Mridula Sinha requesting her to ask the government to prove majority at a floor test in the House.
When asked about these moves, Chodankar said a decision on this will be taken in a legislative party meeting.
He also criticised the government for not solving the mining issue.
He alleged that many decisions taken by the government were illegal and in favour of some people.
He said that government will be exposed on issues like illegal mining lease renewals, a settlement with SEZ promoters, taking selective private premises on rent for government use at a huge amount and formalin-laced fish.
Chodankar also alleged that the government was giving extensions to casinos to operate without challenging the decision of the High Court to support the casino lobby as some persons from the government are benefitting from kickbacks from the casinos.
When asked about the meeting of ministers which was held on Thursday, Chodankar said that the meeting is just an eyewash in the absence of the Chief Minister.
“How can the ministers take a decision when the CM who is holding prominent portfolios like finance, etc is absent. These ministers are fooling the people,” he said.
