Cong softens stand on alliance

Something on lines of mahagathbandhan can be thought: Digvijaya

PANAJI

The Congress has softened its stand on the issue of alliance with other parties even as party’s central observer Digvijaya Singh has said that the party’s first list of candidates as recommended by the blocks will be deliberated soon.
Addressing a press conference, Singh said Congress will deliberate on proposals only from those who are willing to take on the communal forces.
“A mahaghatbandhan or coming together of opposition forces took place in the recent session of the Assembly, something on similar lines can be thought out for the Assembly elections,” Digvijay Singh said adding that the names of candidates as proposed by the blocks by the August 31 deadline and the candidate selection would be done in stages.
“We will receive the lists and in meeting we will deliberate the list submitted. In cases where there is unanimity, the names will be recommended to the Central Electoral Authority of the AICC and will be soon announced.
The Congress has also announced that it will step up its campaign in the coming weeks with the party preparing a chargesheet against the government and publicly releasing it amid highlighting all the government’s shortcomings.
“This will be along with the party stepping up its campaign through a Seva Dal Camp towards the end of September as well as the Youth Congress and the NSUI will begin a mass contact programme,” Singh said.
