Saying the people of Goa do not want the Congress to forge any alliances with opposition parties for the upcoming polls, Congress Goa Secretary Dr Anjali Nimbalkar on Sunday said the voice of Goans would resonate before the Party High Command to take a decision.
Exuding confidence that the Congress High Command would stick to the voice of the people of Goa, Anjali said the Congress would contest the elections in all the seats.
Speaking to the media at the Margao Lohia Maidan after paying homage to the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia on his 115 birth anniversary on Sunday, Anjali said, “After moving around in 20-25 constituencies, the voice of the people of Goa is one sided. Congress workers and voters don’t want any alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party or any other party. We are firm this time that the people of Goa will vote for the Congress. I will resonate the voices of Goans against the alliance with AAP for elections for the local bodies and 2027 Assembly election.”
When a scribe drew her attention that AAP has already decided to go alone in the upcoming polls, Anjali shot back, “we have no issue if they have declared their intention to contest the election. We have not gone to anyone’s house to beg for an alliance.”
Saying that she is in Goa to build the party organisation and strengthen the same for the coming elections, Anjali said the Congress party would contest elections in all the seats.
The AICC Secretary said Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Karge, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are all in favour of protecting Goa’s identity for posterity.
South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes said the Congress party workers and leaders have come to pay homage to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia for giving the call along with Dr Juliao Menezes to liberate Goa from the Portuguese rule. “Both Dr Lohia and Dr Juliao Menezes were friends and studying in Germany. At the invitation of Dr Menezes, Dr Lohia came down to Goa wherein they decided to give a call for the liberation of Goa,” the MP said, adding that the time has come for the people to liberate the State from corruption and other vices.
Cong will field party candidate in Benaulim too for 2027 polls: Anjali
MARGAO: Congress Goa Secretary Dr Anjali Nimbalkar on Sunday said the Congress would also field party candidate in the Benaulim Assembly constituency in the 2027 Assembly elections.
“Obviously, we will field our party candidate in Benaulim as well,” she said, adding “why not Benaulim. Is Benaulim outside Goa? As far as I know, Benaulim is inside Goa.”
Anjali was reacting to a query from a scribe whether the Congress would contest in all the seats, including Benaulim represented by Aam Aadmi Party MLA Venzy Viegas.
