Cong to field candidates at upcoming BMC polls

BICHOLIM
Bicholim Block Congress on Monday announced its decision to field candidates in all 14 wards of the Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) at the forthcoming polls.

Addressing a news conference at Bicholim on Monday evening, Bicholim Block Congress President Meghshyam Raut claimed that none of the councillors in the present BJP-controlled council were keen to promote the development of Bicholim town.

“Basic needs like adequate water and power supply have not been provided. Open gutters at many places in Bicholim have posed a danger of vector-borne diseases. Besides, there is no proper playground in Bicholim.”

“Hence, it is necessary to solve these issues on priority and the Bicholim Block Congress has decided to field our own candidates in all 14 BMC wards, as we want to ensure all-round development,” said Raut.

Raut appealed to youth and women to come forward if they wished to serve society by contesting the BMC elections and said the Congress would extend its support to them.

Local Congress leaders Mustafa Beg, Manoj Mayekar and Gurudas Halarnkar were also present at the news conference.
