The Comunidade of Saligao has offered land behind the Saligao panchayat office for the new Primary Health Centre (PHC) and the new Saligao PHC will temporarily function on the first floor of Saligao Market till the PHC gets its own building.
This was stated by Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar and later confirmed by the Treasurer of Saligao Comunidade Mario Cordeiro.
“The Comunidade of Saligao has issued a letter of intent to the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) offering 2,000 sq metres of land behind the Saligao panchayat office for the construction of a 20-bedded PHC,” said Salgaonkar.
“While the PHC building is constructed and ready for occupation, the DHS has decided to start the PHC on the first floor of the Saligao Market. The Association of Industries in Pilerne Industrial Estate has agreed to provide furniture required for the PHC and a pharmaceutical company at this industrial estate will provide necessary laboratory equipment under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).”
“The DHS has already appointed a full-time doctor for Sub Health Centre at Saligao and this doctor will look after the administration of the new PHC. The existing space of the SHC will also be used for activities of the PHC,” said Salgaonkar.
The Saligao MLA said the new Saligao PHC will cater to about 40,000 residents of Saligao, Sangolda, Parra, Pilerne and Reis Magos.
“The government has already appointed some staff for the Saligao PHC and they are presently deputed at Candolim and other health centres as the Saligao PHC has not started functioning as yet.”
“These staff members have been getting their salaries from the account of Saligao PHC. The government has allotted an ambulance for the Saligao PHC and has stationed it at the Candolim PHC. The Saligao PHC will start functioning soon,” said Salgaonkar.
