Congress’s Goy Rakhonn Yatra made a grand entry into Salcete as the party’s first stop in Benaulim, the constituency represented by Aam Aadmi Party MLA Venzy Viegas, receiving a huge response on Tuesday.
As thousands of people marched through the streets of Benaulim and Varca as part of the Goy Rakhonn yatra, the party virtually put party rivals on notice as the Congress conveyed a message loud and clear to its challengers that the party is back in reckoning in the constituency after 27 long years.
Congress leaders, social activists, representatives of stake holders, including tourist taxi operators, besides sarpanchas of the panchayat bodies joined the yatra.
As the yatra culminated at Varca, the home village of Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, party leaders, including Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress working president, and MLA Altone D’Costa, and others vowed to protect Goa from destruction.
This is the first time after the party’s victory in the 2025 Zilla Panchayat election when Luiza Rodrigues defeated the Aam Aadmi Party to win the Benaulim ZP seat, the Congress has showed its strength in the constituency.
The support extended to the yatra by youth leader Warren Alemao, when he joined the rally with a large number of supporters, further helped the party to showcase its strength in Benaulim ahead of the 2027 elections.
Besides Girish, Yuri and Altone, the meeting at Varca was addressed by Warren, social activist Fidol Pereira and Santan Pereira, Solan Furtado, leader of tourist taxi operators, Alerio, political commentator Prabhakar Timble and others.
Earlier at the Dando grounds, Benaulim block Congress president Keith Gracias, former MLA Caitu Silva, Benaulim ZP member Luiza Rodrigues and others addressed the gathering.
