MARGAO
The Congress has vowed to deny any lead to the BJP from the Margao segment of the South Goa Lok Sabha Constituency.
In fact, the city Congress has promised the State leadership and party candidate Captain Viriato Fernandes that the party rank and file will work hard to give a lead for the party in Margao in the coming polls.
City Congress leader Savio Coutinho on Tuesday accepted the challenge from Congress turned BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat that the BJP candidate Pallavi Dempo will get 10,000-vote lead in the Margao segment.
At the Congress election office inauguration programme in the city here on Tuesday, Coutinho asserted that the Congress will not only stop Digambar from giving a lead to the BJP, but the party will go all out to ensure the Congress will get a lead. “After defecting to the BJP in September 2022, the Margao MLA has been spreading news that the Congress is finished in Margao. We will prove a point or two to the BJP MLA that Congress is still alive and active in the city,” Coutinho added.
Coutinho’s statement was welcomed by party top brass comprising of GPCC chief Amit Patkar, Opposition leader Yuri Alemao, party MLAs, besides party candidate Captain Viriato Fernandes.
