MARGAO
The Congress party virtually kick-started its election campaign for the 2022 Assembly election from the historic Lohia Maidan on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day when AICC Goa Desk in-charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao, took a pledge to scrap the controversial projects causing destruction to Goa’s identity and environment if the party returned to power in 2022.
Observers say Gundu Rao’s announcement is a part of the principal opposition party’s attempt to win back the trust and confidence of the party’s core voter base.
That the AICC in charge made the announcement in the presence of party leaders, including Opposition leader Digambar Kamat GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar, MLA Reginaldo Lourenco and former minister Aleixo Sequeira indicates the decision to scrap the controversial projects has the backing of the local party leadership. “On this historic day, we are taking a pledge to be the voice of the people of Goa. We are committed to preserve and protect its rich heritage of this unique State,” Rao told the media.
