At a meeting of the Congress party workers organised at Sanguem on Sunday, the Congress workers resolved not to permit allocation of party ticket in the coming elections to any new entrant in the party.
The move comes close on heels of a recent statement by Independent MLA from Sanguem constituency Prasad Gaonkar hinting at his intention to join the Congress before the State Assembly elections slated next year.
The party workers were of the opinion that joining Congress shouldn’t be a problem and that nobody should denied an opportunity to join the party, but the party ticket should be allocated to the workers of the organisation who have been working dedicatedly and actively for the party since long.
The members of the party present at meeting didn’t stop at seeking ticket for party aspirants but warned of serious consequences if the party allocates tickets to new entrants, reminding the party of Prasad Gaonkar’s intention to join the party.
The meeting was addressed by GPCC President Girish Chodankar, District President Joe Dias, Block President Sanguem Josephine Rodrigues and Kissan Morcha President Abhijit Dessai.
Speaking at the meeting, Chodankar assured the party workers of the party taking the workers into confidence before any decision is taken on allocation of party tickets and that the workers will also be given an opportunity to address their grievances to the party’s central leaders who are due to visit Sanguem in the coming days.
Chodankar urged the workers to continue with the membership drive and enroll at least another 2000 new members in the party during the next few days.
Chodankar also asked the workers to complete the formation of the frontal organisations in Sanguem constituency including that of appointment of new block committee.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting were Jervis Fernandes, Josinho D’Costa, Jeetendra Naik, Sudesh Bhagat and Rajnikant Naik.
