The Opposition Congress slammed the government for its complete surrender to the organisers of Sunburn saying rampant use of drugs was ignored by the police machinery.

Addressing a press conference on Monday evening, Congress spokesperson Trajano D’Mello said, the Goa Police’s claim that there were no drugs at the EDM festival venue made no sense.

D’Mello who sued the organisers and the State government over permitting the festival without organisers being made to pay up licence fee and other dues of EDM festivals organised in previous years, reiterated his demand that a special investigative team, headed by a retired High Court judge be set up to investigate the deaths as well as the alleged rampant use of narcotics at the venue.

“It is clear that all local agencies and the police are biased. There is no way any impartial investigation by them will bear any result and uncover use of drugs if any,” D’Mello said, adding that only a retired High Court Judge heading the probe will give it authenticity.

D’Mello also slammed Tourism Minister, Manohar (Babu) Ajgaonkar, for backing EDM festivals and claiming that Sunburn Klassique had immensely helped the tourism industry.

“How does he know the quantum of business due to the festival when the industry itself is not sure? They are still evaluating their turnovers as the festival ended just yesterday,” D’Mello said.
