Highly placed sources from the party informed that the GPCC executive committee acted on confirmed reports that D’Mello was hobnobbing with leaders from the ruling dispensation. “He has been leveling baseless allegations against GPCC President Luizinho Faleiro at the behest of Goa Forward Party supremo Vijai Sardesai. The decision was taken at the last meeting of the party executive,” a source disclosed.
D’Mello, a former senior vice president of the NCP, had joined the Congress along with 11 members of NCP executive committee including Nilkanth Halarnkar on May 14, 2016, citing the sole aim of consolidating the secular votes for the 2017 Assembly polls. GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro had termed the entry of D’Mello and Halarnkar as ‘the true gathbandhan’.
