Expressing surprise at the party’s decision to take so long time to announce candidates, he said Congress was yet to learn a lesson.
“Both BJP and MGP are poaching candidates of Congress right, left and centre. Even a relatively new entrant, AAP has declared most of its candidates. It’s astonishing that Congress is taking so long time,” Narvekar told The Goan.
The former Congressman said that his sympathy was with the party but failed to understand the delay in taking quick decisions by the party leadership.
“The party needs to be decisive. The situation is not the same as it was some 10 or 15 years back. At that time, we could afford to take time.
But now there is competition and that could be Congress’ downfall,” the senior politician said.
He further said that the delay to announce the
candidates could cost Congress dearly in the ensuing elections.
“I don’t know why they are taking such a long time.
It could affect Congress’ prospects at hustings,” Narvekar said.
“Where is the Congress leadership in Bardez? The party has no candidates in many of the constituencies in the taluka. Congress is not a new party like AAP but yet it has failed to groom good leaders in Bardez which was once a Congress bastion,” he said.
