Congress leaders, workers bank on Priyanka to give direction and bolster their poll campaign

MARGAO
With Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal making frequent trips to poll bound Goa and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee expected to descend on the election battleground early next week, all eyes are on Congress’ charismatic leader Priyanka Gandhi to see how she will bolster the Congress election campaign.

The Congress party is anxiously looking forward to the visit of Priyanka on December 10. After the visit of Rahul Gandhi, which had helped galvanize and boost the sagging morale of the party rank and file, Priyanka will spend a day in South Goa, making her presence in at least five assembly constituencies in Salcete and Mormugao before returning to Delhi the same day.

As per the tentative schedule worked out by the Congress leadership, Priyanka is expected to land at the Dabolim airport at around 12.20 pm on December 10. Her motorcade is expected to head straight away to Assolna village, where Priyanka is scheduled to pay respects to the martyr’s memorial at the Lohia Chowk.

From Assolna, Priyanka will pay a visit to Cuncolim to pay respect to the freedom fighters, who had sacrificed their lives during the Liberation movement. She will then head to the Scheduled Tribe dominated village of Morpilla in Quepem constituency, where she will have lunch with women hailing from the ST community.

Priyanka will return to Margao in the evening for an interaction with children fighting to save Mollem at the MCC conference hall, before heading to the Costa grounds at around 5.15 pm to address a state-level convention of mahilas.

Sources informed that before leaving for the Dabolim airport, a tentative program has been fixed at Chicalim, where Priyanka is expected to formally induct a group of persons into the Congress party.

Sources in the Congress party informed that the party is indeed looking forward to Priyanka’s visit to the state to give a boost to the party’s ongoing election campaign.
