A meeting of the Congress Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) chaired by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Chief Girish Chodankar had a sitting at the South Goa district office on Monday evening to peruse the list of candidates recommended by the party blocks and district committees.
No final decision on the selection of candidates has been taken by the PEC, sources said, especially in view of the political developments unfolding in the state and party leaders in no rush to declare candidates.
The PEC, however, took stock of the number of candidates recommended by the block committees and the two district committees as per the selection exercise. A senior leader attending the meeting informed that there was no finality to the meeting, further adding that the PEC undertook the preliminary exercise of going through the candidates’ lists shortlisted by the blocks and the district committee.
The senior leader said the PEC will meet again soon after the visit of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, who will be on a day-long visit to the state on December 10.
Besides the GPCC Chief, most of the members of the PEC, including the two working presidents, Aleixo Sequeira and Reginaldo Lourenco, Opposition leader Digambar Kamat, Ramakhant Khalap, Dr Pramod Salgaokar, M K Sheikh, leaders of the party frontal organizations participated in the PEC meeting. Congress Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao and observer Prakash Rathod also attended the meeting.
