Is Goa 100 percent vaccinated? Well, that would depend on who you tend to believe.
A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi patted Goa’s back for ensuring 100 per cent coverage of the first Covid vaccine, the Congress party on Saturday cried foul, accusing the Goa government as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi of fibbing their numbers.
The first off the blocks was Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, who said that the claim was a lie as fictitious as earlier claims made by the government about Goa being 100 per cent defecation free and facilitating tap water to all homes in the state.
“Claim by @goacm of 100% Covid vaccination to eligible population is one more lie added to the ‘pack of lies’ of @BJP4Goa Government. Insensitive @BJP4India 1st declared Goa as Open Defecation Free, Later announced Goa is connected with Tap Water in every Household. Lies continue…,” Kamat tweeted.
On Friday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had posted a social media post congratulating doctors, nurses and healthcare workers for their industrious efforts during the vaccination drive.
“I thank the people of Goa for their support in making this drive a huge success. On behalf of the people of Goa, I thank the union Govt led by Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji for providing free vaccination to all persons above 18, and a seamless supply of doses to fight this pandemic. We shall continue to march ahead with same energy to ensure that we also complete the second dose,” Sawant also said.
Following Sawant’s post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had responded saying: “Well done Goa! Great effort, powered by a collective spirit and the prowess of our doctors as well as innovators,” the Prime Minister had also tweeted lauding the state for its effort.
The Congress in Goa is, however, unwilling to buy into the claims made by both the Chief Minister as well as Prime Minister. “This is another blatant Lie of @BJP4India & @BJP4Goa Government who keep fooling people with Jumlaaz. #BuddhuKoSadbuddhiDe @INCGoa,” state Congress president Girish Chodankar claimed.
Earlier this week, the Chief Minister said that the state government had administered 11.50 lakh plus first doses in Goa. The CM also said that while there were several Goans registered on the election voter rolls, who had been living outside the state, the health administration had also vaccinated a significant number persons who had migrated to the state, who had been also vaccinated.
