Automobile companies in the State had reason to cheer amid a surge in demand during the Ganesh Chaturthi season, but sales were lower as compared to the last festive season on account of a worldwide shortage in a critical component.
"A lot of orders for cars could not be fulfilled this season due to less supply of vehicles from manufacturers on account of a worldwide shortage in electrical chips,” said Prashant Joshi, President of Goa Automobile Dealers Association (GADA).
“As a result, dealers did not have enough stock of cars with them,” he added.
He explained that people in Goa like to purchase cars and two-wheelers during the auspicious Chaturthi season, but car sales were lower as compared to the last season.
“The sale of cars has been good as of now, but it is about 50 per cent less compared to the previous Chaturthi season due to shortage in supply.”
“The sales of two-wheelers have been quite good, despite being 20-30 percent less in comparison with the previous Chaturthi season,” said Joshi.
Joshi admitted that business had been affected along with the entire industry due to Covid-related restrictions, but said the automobile business got a boost after restrictions were lifted.
