State Congress President Girish Chodankar on Friday dismissed stinging allegations levelled against him by former party spokesperson Trajano D'mello, describing them as an unfailing "seasonal" occurrence.
"This is Trajano's season. Five years ago, around the same time, Luizinho Faleiro was president of Congress. He made the same allegations against Faleiro. He was sacked, then he came back. It is election time," Chodankar said.
The state Congress president also said that D'Mello's allegations related to alleged corruption and mismanagement of party affairs by top Congress leaders, including Chodankar, were fuelled by the fact that the ex-party spokesperson who was sacked from his post and membership earlier this week, was likely to join Trinamool Congress.
"I believe Faleiro had visited him 15 days to a month back. He may get a package. Why should we disturb him. These days (around elections) something good happens to him. After some days, you will realise where the statement has come from," Chodankar said.
The top state party official also appealed to Captain Viratio Fernandes to join the Congress party.
"We have asked the 'Goencho Avaaz' that if they want to dethrone the BJP, we are publicly urging them to join the Congress. Captain Viriato should join the Congress and to strengthen the fight," Chodankar said.
