MARGAO
The Congress will finally declare the party candidate for the South Goa seat post-Holi celebration next week.
Both Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar and Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, who had headed to the national capital on Friday have returned home on Saturday after they were told that the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting of the Congress will take place after Holi scheduled on Monday.
Yuri informed that the meeting of the Congress CEC now might take place mid-next week, wherein the issue of the party South Goa candidate is expected to be finally decided.
As things stand today, four-time sitting South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, ex-GPCC chief Girish Chodankar and social activist Captain Viriato Fernandes are in the race for the party ticket for the South Goa seat.
The three names, sources informed, were shortlisted by the Congress Screening Committee panel last month before recommending the names to the party Central Election Committee.
