Claiming that work on the third Mandovi bridge is still incomplete, GPCC President Girish Chodankar on Friday said the Congress would not allow BJP to inaugurate the bridge on January 12 and risk the lives of people.
Speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a Congress Foundation Day event at Sal, Chodankar hit out at the BJP for trying to inaugurate an incomplete bridge.
“The BJP has lost hopes of winning the Lok Sabha elections in Goa and hence, the party is determined to inaugurate the third Mandavi Bridge in haste although work on the bridge is yet to be completed.”
Stating that it would take about four months to complete all work, Chodankar added: “Once the work is finished in all aspects, the government has to make available the certificate of safety of bridge to the public.”
“Only then has it the right to inaugurate the bridge, else the government cannot inaugurate the bridge without complying with necessary procedures of bridge safety.”
Warning the BJP not to take the people of Goa for granted, Chodankar said the Congress party would not remain silent as far as public safety is concerned.
“The Congress will stop the inauguration of the incomplete bridge on January 12 by some means or the other,” threatened Chodankar.
Asked to spell out their plan of action, Chodankar replied: “It will be decided in some manner.”
