Technical specs for tourist taxi meters finalised

It appears that the contentious issue of installation of digital meters for tourist taxis is finally heading to some sort of a solution.
Minister of Transport, Ramkrishna ‘Sudin' Dhavalikar, informed that the technical specifications of digital meters with printer, GPS (global positioning system) and panic button have been finalized in consultation with Goa Electronics.
Dhavalikar provided this information while replying to a question tabled by Quepem MLA Chandrakant ‘Babu' Kavlekar in the assembly.
Dhavalikar further said the department of transport is in the process of taking necessary steps to float expression of interest for the same (digital meters).
Meanwhile, Dhavalikar informed that there are 29,528 cars registered as tourist taxis in Goa.
Also, the number of taxi drivers holding valid badges stands at 25,668.
