He was 70 and is survived by one son and two daughters.
Vivek Kansar, son of late Amrut Kansar, informed that his father had a spinal fracture last year and in February, it was revealed that he had blood cancer and was shifted to Mumbai. He was treated in Sushrut Hospital in Chembur under the guidance of Dr Suresh Advani.
"After treatment, he was brought to Goa on August 28 and due to chemo treatment, his immunity was lowered and he had lung infections. He was admitted to Manipal Hospital on Sept 7 and from there he was shifted to the GMC on September 8 and he breathed his last on Monday at 6.30 am due to multiple organs failure," informed Vivek.
Kansar was born on January 9, 1947, at Bicholim. After passing SSC examination, he left for for higher education in Pune. After completing graduation and post graduation in law, he came down to Goa and started practicing law.
He was professor in V M Salgaonkar College of Law at Miramar lecturing on the Indian Constitution, Administrative and Hindu Law. Simultaneously, he was also doing practice. He left the law college after working for 18 years and started practicing on full-time basis. Kansar contested the Lok Sabha election on MGP ticket in 1977 from Panaji constituency. He secured 66,933 votes, defeating his rival candidate Puroshattam Kakodkar of Congress. Kakodkar could get 55,867 votes. He was MP for 3 years as Lok Sabha was dissolved.
Though he was not very active in politics, he used give his advice to political leaders whoever approached him. He worked for Bhahujan Samaj and Dalit and was felicitated on many occasions for his social service. He fought court cases free of cost for the poor people.
His funeral cortege will leave his residence at Porvorim for St Inez at 12 noon on Tuesday.
