The sweeping changes in the land development and building regulations proposed by Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane to permit construction of farm houses, yoga centres and edifices for agriculture research besides sports and religious arenas got a leg up and inched closer to becoming law.
A sub-committee which went into the objections and suggestions received from the public and stakeholders on draft changes in The Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulations, has finalised its report which was discussed on Thursday by the 'Steering Committee' which includes Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, according to Rane.
"A comprehensive discussion took place regarding the report. Several other general discussions pertaining to planning and policy matters were also undertaken,” Rane said in a post on micro-blogging site Twitter.
The steering committee meeting was chaired by Sawant and attended by Chief Town Planners Rajesh Naik and Vertika Dagur, he added.
The TCP department had notified these new draft regulations in mid-May and had sought public objections and suggestions within 30 days.
These draft regulations also propose "common use" of open spaces by the joint owners of sub-divided plots by permitting utility structures including water towers to the extent of 5 per cent coverage.
An earlier attempt to bring in these changes which had also provided for setting up golf courses and film cities, was aborted by Rane in September last year after widespread opposition and uproar.
Notified in September last year, the draft regulations were however rescinded by the TCP department a month later. The new draft notification brought out in May this year, does not have any provision for setting up golf courses and film cities.
