Goa is perhaps the only State in the country that is persisting with an 'electricity department' while most other States in the country have switched to either an Electricity Board or Corporation, it got revealed in the course of the hearing.
Consumer activist Roland Martins highlighted the matter and urged the Commission to enforce its past recommendation to the Goa government to restructure the department either as a Board or a Corporation for better financial performance and management.
"The State government subsidising the power utility services every year with budgetary support year in and year out does not make economic sense," Martins said.
