Traffic on the National Highway 66 was paralysed for a long time at the Balli road junction late Friday evening after a container trailer broke down right in the middle of the busy highway.
As traffic on the NH66 lay disrupted, the incident has only thrown up questions about whether the authorities should bar heavy containers from plying on the busy road during peak hours on the highway. For, this is not the first time that heavy-duty containers and trailers have blocked traffic on the highway either due to accidents or breakdowns.
Traffic on both sides of the Balli traffic junction was hampered for a long time even as attempts were underway to rectify and repair the fault.
Locals have repeated the plea that heavy-duty containers, including the vehicles transporting hazardous goods and chemicals, should be barred from plying on the highway, but instead be directed to take the Konkan railway RORO service.
