A lone Goan student pursuing her Master's in Clinical Psychology at the Manipur University has been caught in the crossfire in the hill state witnessing unprecedented violence before Chief Minister Pramod Sawant personally intervened to ensure her safe passage to the airport.
City businessman Sunil Naik informed his daughter Dr Suvidya Sunil Naik, who is pursuing her Master's in Clinical Psychology at Manipur University called the family on May 4 night and explained the exact situation of the violence and clashes between the Meetei Tribe and Kuki Tribe which started on May 3 evening.
"The agitators vandalized the Manipur University properties. The situation over there was very scary. We could understand she was scared and unaware of what is to be done to escape from the campus as most of the students had left the University Hostel and gone to their native places," Sunil said.
"Being the only Goan student studying at Manipur University, she left with 9-10 students from Kerala in the guest house, but they were uncertain about their evacuation."
Sunil added: "On early Friday morning we received a call from her pleading to make the arrangements for her to fly back home as the situation was tense and deteriorating. Listening to her panicked voice, we immediately called Chief Minister Pramod Sawant."
"On hearing me patiently, Sawant promised me to get my daughter back home safely. The Chief Minister immediately called the DG office and instructed them to make contact with the Manipur Police. The responsibility was given to IPS Dr A Koan, DIG, Goa State," he said.
Sunil said due to the efforts of the Chief Minister, his daughter was in constant touch with the DIG office, the CRPF Lieutenant Commander Rasheed and his team were in touch with her and have made the arrangements to escort Dr Suvidya to the Imphal Airport.
"Dr A Koan personally requested our daughter to bring one minor boy Master Arnav Jayesh Kalangutkar, who had gone for holidays at his maternal uncle's place in Manipur," he said.
The K B Naik family thanked the Chief Minister, Dr A Koan, DIG, Goa Police and all the Manipur CRPF personnel who are on duty for ensuring the safety of their daughter Dr Suvidya.
