Vasco police have registered a case against a contractor from Shantinagar, Vasco, after a labourer died following a fall from the second floor of a building during dismantling work at New Vaddem.
According to police, the incident took place at a house near the Goa State Co-operative Bank in New Vaddem on July 6 at around
2.12 pm.
Police identified the contractor as Hapich Hossain, a resident of Shantinagar, Vasco, originally from Cooch Behar in West Bengal. He had hired mason and labourer Altab Mian, a resident of New Vaddem and a native of West Bengal, to remove metal sheets placed over wooden scaffolding on the second floor of the building.
During the work, Altab reportedly lost his balance and fell from the second floor. He suffered serious injuries and later died.
Police said the contractor failed to provide proper safety measures and protective equipment, allowing the labourer to work in unsafe conditions.
A case has been registered against the contractor under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Akanksh Fadte Dessai of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
