Contractor’s lethargy delays Pernem administrative building project

MLA expresses dissatisfaction over the construction work

Contractor’s lethargy delays Pernem administrative building project MLA Pravin Arlekar inspecting the under construction Pernem Municipal Council’s administrative building.

PERNEM

The construction of the first phase of Pernem Municipal Council’s administrative building is being done with the expense of Rs 8 crore. The work is allegedly being delayed due to the lethargy of the contractor.

He has defaulted in the work too, by building the protecting wall directly attached to the building, and not at its side. This would endanger not only the said building but even the adjacent government complex, according to the MLA.

Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar along with SUDA officers, municipal chairperson Siddhesh Pednekar, former chairperson Usha Nagvekar and councillors Vishakha Gadekar, Rakhi Kashalkar, Shivaram Tukoji visited the building to take a review of the said error.

The work in the first phase has been going on at a slow pace, with a delay of a year. The government has extended the time by one year but the contractor has not expedited the work yet.

During the inspection, Arlekar expressed his dissatisfaction over the work, and especially the protective wall that has been attached to the building posing danger to the structure.

“The work has not been carried out the way it was planned. It is already delayed too. The protective wall that has been attached to the building, instead of constructing it at the side, has endangered the structure of the building, and I will see what can be done to undo this. I will discuss the issue with the government. The SUDA officials had to be present while the work was going on, which has not happened. The Municipal Council also had to keep a vigil, but sidelining all. The contractor has arbitrarily done wrong, which now has to be corrected after discussing the issue with the government,” he said.
