Controversial constructions: Canacona mamlatdar told to file compliance reports

Canacona Deputy Collector Kedar Naik has directed the Canacona Mamlatdar to immediately inspect the controversial construction of huts, shacks and cottages in a particular survey of Agonda coast and submit compliance reports within two days.

Following a news report in The Goan that GCZMA has called for detailed inspection and action taken report for alleged illegal constructions in a particular survey in Agonda, Canacona Deputy Collector Kedar Naik has issued a memorandum to the Canacona Mamlatdar to inspect the site immediately and submit compliance reports within two days.

Making a reference to the communication received in the matter from GCZMA, Deputy Collector, Canacona, the memorandum dated November 21 to Canacona Mamlatdar states that “in this connection, Mamlatdar of Canacona is hereby directed to inspect the site immediately and ensure that no work is carried out at the site, other than in accordance with law and submit compliance report within two days to this office in order to take further appropriate action in the matter.”

Besides marking a copy to GCZMA, a copy was also forwarded to the complainant, a resident of Agonda.

According to sources, GCZMA’s crackdown on the particular survey of Agonda coast assumes significance, as a former Karnataka minister has high stakes in the tourism trade carried out from the alleged controversial site, reportedly operating a high-end tourist resort.
