The name of 'Sambhaji' in the ration cards of Vasco residents which created a major controversy caused unpleasant feelings in Sancoale, after a ward was named differently in the panchayat letter to the Rector of the Sancoale Sanctuary.
The panchayat letter which listed timings for the residents to deposit their plastic waste in the van at the specified timings at designated places mentioned the St Joseph Vaz ward as the Convent ward.
“I don't know from where this Convent ward came about. All this while the ward was named as St Joseph Vaz ward, the illustrious son of Goa known world over which also brought Sancoale into prominence,” an annoyed Rector and activist Fr Eremito Rebelo told the devotees after the Sunday mass.
Seeking a correction from the panchayat, Fr Rebelo said if the panchayat refused to do so then it would amount to be the similar act wherein the name 'Sambhaji' found unilateral mention in the ration cards of the residents of Vasco.
Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar was however not available on his cell phone for his comments.
Meanwhile, Fr Rebelo asked the residents to dispose their plastic waste and not to burn the plastic since it would discharge harmful emissions that could be detrimental to health.
