The Goa police have cracked the sensational Betalbatim murder case with the Rajasthan Police nabbing all the four accused in the gruesome murder of 27-year-old Dr Nirwan Bharat.
The four accused, including the cook working for Dr Nirwan, who were travelling by the brand new Ford car owned by the deceased, were intercepted by the Rajasthan police at a toll naka around Thursday noon.
Superintendent of police, South Abhishek Dhania while addressing the media on Thursday said the four confessed their alleged involvement in Dr Nirwan’s murder.
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that theft is the motive behind the murder of the doctor. The accused has strangulated the doctor to death to commit theft of cash amounting to around Rs one lakh, besides some electronic items and the Ford car owned by the deceased.
Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) surveillance cameras in and around Nagavaddo-Betalbatim and tracking of the accused via mobile phone helped the Colva police to achieve a breakthrough in the sensational murder of Dr Bharat in distant Rajasthan.
Mapping of CCTV footage recovered from the cameras installed around the Residency where the deceased doctor was putting up in the last two months revealed the entry and exit of the accused persons into the building.
And, the police tracked the movement of the four accused through mobile intelligence, before the accused were intercepted at Bilwara toll point in Rajasthan on Thursday noon.
“Upon mapping of the CCTC footage of a camera located in an adjoining building revealed that the cook working for the deceased had walked in the building on February 7. This was soon followed by the other accused persons’, district police Chief, SP Abhishek Dhania informed.
The CCTV further showed two of the accused coming out of the building, while the other two, including the cook, came from out from the other side, before they all sat in the Ford car owned by the doctor and sped away.
Sub-divisional Police officer, DySP Santosh Desai informed that when the murder came to light on late Wednesday evening, the police immediately deployed a team for intelligence gathering, wherein it was revealed that the mobile used by one of the accused was tracked at Pune in Maharashtra.
From Pune, the accused are believed to have headed toward Madhya Pradesh by crossing the Maharashtra border last night. “Since the police were continuously tracking the movement of the accused person based on their mobile number, the police immediately contacted their counterparts at Rajasthan after it became clear that the car was travelling towards the State”, DySP Santosh added.
