In a major breakthrough, Panaji Police arrested three youth in the wee hours of Tuesday in connection with the murder of Uttar Pradesh native Manoj Yadav at
Campal.
While Manjunath Shivsharan Koli (21) of Caranzalem and Rajkumar Jaigudi (20) of Tonca were apprehended by the police at their residence on Tuesday morning, Aniket Naik (24) of Caranzalem was arrested on Tuesday evening.
The trio has been booked under Section 302 of IPC for murder and under Section 307 for attempted murder of the complainant. Speaking to the media, Deputy Superintendent of Police and SDPO (Panaji) Nelson Albuquerque stated, "The trio attacked the deceased Yadav based on previous enmity. The complainant Akash Das tried to intervene and was also assaulted. So far, the investigation has revealed that the misunderstanding resulting from a minor altercation which occured three days between the deceased and the accused earlier was the motive."
Sources disclosed that police traced the location of the three accused based on the description provided by Das, who at this stage has emerged as the prime witness.
As per the investigation, it has come to light that Yadav was employed at the sewage treatment plant at the Campal Parade Ground. He had made the ground his home.
Three days prior to the unfortunate incident, the three accused were passing by and a stick that they tossed aside hit Yadav. Angered by the act, Yadav picked up a stone and threatened to pelt it at the accused. Though the three youngsters went away at that time, they returned to avenge the insult at the crack of dawn on Monday. No weapon was used by the accused and it was the blows, slaps and kicks delivered by the accused to the deceased which proved fatal. The cause of death has been declared as "haemorrhagic should consider consequent to blunt abdominal trauma with damage to underlying vital organs".
It was also learnt that two of the accused, Koli and Naik, have criminal antecedents. While Koli is under trial in a 2015 case, Naik has around six to seven cases registered against him between 2012
and 2014.
