Say police has every right to demand for passport since accused is foreign national

The Goa police has defended its decision to alert the immigration authorities to stop Brazilian player Elano Blumer from leaving the country.
Margao Sub-Divisional Police officer, DySP Dinraj Govekar said the police has not acted in a highhanded manner nor under any influence from the higher authorities. “The police have reasonable apprehension that the accused player will leave the country after being enlarged on bail and hence insisted on producing his passport. If the accused has already left the country before the police alerted the immigration authorities, then it will only prove that our apprehension was genuine,” he said.
When asked that the police insisted on the accused producing the passport when the court had released the accused on bail without imposing any such condition, DySP Govekar reiterated that the police has every right to insist on the accused to surrender his passport for the simple reason that the accused is a foreign national.
